Summary

The origins of the road are unknown, possibly either a planned street in the late Saxon settlement or part of growth in the late Saxon or medieval period. It has been a cul-de-sac since the construction of the Moat House Hotel in the 1970s, but formerly extended west to Horsemarket.

{1}Road not named; Kings Head Lane on north side of St Katherines' precinct; leads to Horsemarket.

{2}Kings Head Lane; north of St Katherines'; east of Horsemarket.

{3}Kings Head Lane lies to east of Horsemarket.

{4}Noted on map as King Street; east of Horsemarket & north of St Katherines'.

{6} King Street (formerly known as Kings Head Lane) is now a cul-de-sac, but prior to the construction of the Moat House Hotel it extended westward to Horsemarket as depicted in historic maps from 1610 onwards. The origin of the road is unknown- it may have been a planned road in the late Saxon settlement or may have been a product of late Saxon or medieval expansion.
