Description

Permission to excavate first given in 1972 when Field 70 was examined (Area A). When the farm changed hands in 1974 Field 68 (Area B) was threatened by posting or chisel ploughing. Permission to excavate this field ahead of this was given by the new tenant farmer. Field 68 had been under the plough for some time, but Field 70 remained under pasture and excavation revealed that it had not been cultivated in post-Roman times.
