Description

{1} An ad hoc trial excavation undertaken in 1966, with trench locations based on aerial photo evidence found no positive evidence for Roman activity. During development immediately to the north and east, however, extensive evidence of Roman activity was recorded, including possible stone foundations, human skeletal remains, possible robber trench and rubbish pit. Pottery and many other finds were dated throughout the Roman period. The remains of a possible medieval charnel house were also noted.
