Description
An excavation to the north-west of Bury Mount in 1984 produced for late Iron Age and Roman settlement. Early Saxon sherds were also found but were not associated with features of this date. No evidence of medieval activity in this area was recovered. A 17th century yard surface may be associated with the Civil War gun emplacement. Evidence for the slighting of the Civil War defences may also have been encountered.
