Description
Contractors' trenches at the S. end of Derngate were examined. M144 revealed a wall aligned approximately NE/SW of minimum width 1.60 m. and cutting natural. Associated building material was also observed and natural was present at a depth of 1.80 m. There were no finds. The purpose of such a substantial wall underneath and at right angles to Derngate must be queried. Site references: M144 (SP 75896030) {5} Trench adjacent to Bedford Mansions in Derngate.
