Description

{2} Two thirds of a complex of cropmarks of an Iron Age and Roman rural settlement, covering 18ha ay Clay Lane, Earls Barton was recorded between 1978-80 in advance of road construction and gravel extraction. Between 1978-9 a rescue excavation was undertaken on the extensive cropmark site, as the route of the new A45 Northampton-Wellingborough transected it. In October 1979, permission to extract gravel from adjacent fields was granted and a further rescue excavation was conducted over seven months in 1980 to sample the 12ha under threat.
