Full Description

{1} Factory building shown on map of 1926. Plain, functional building with small amount of detailing on façade. Demolished since the field visit. Film 17, photo 18-20.

{2} Building of brick construction with timber northlit roof structure. The exterior lacked embellishment although the roadside façade had a parapeted gable or entablature with cornice below but with full height pilasters. An adjoining structure of a different date, probably newer and therefore an extension was noted to the north side. The building’s frontage may possibly have been symmetrical when first built. The building contained laboratories at the eastern end (probably for quality control purposes and for monitoring the sites effluent), northlit workshops beyond with a modern storage (?) shed to the west. The modern shed was separated from the older works building by fire doors. The ‘horses’ visible in the slides of the interior of this building, which are used for moving leather around the works are believed to have been brought into building the for storage and are not thought to be indicative of the processes that were taking place in this building specifically.
Sale notice cataloguing equipment still on site at time of sale is included in file.
