Established in 1865. The gasworks closed between 1892 and 1900, replaced by a new gasworks to the north of the town.

Full Description

{1} Gasworks. Duck Street/Church Street. The first gasworks in the town was established in 1864 on the corner of Duck Street and Church Street. There is nothing remaining of the original gasworks and the area is now a car park. Film 16, photo 6-7.

Some of the buildings remained in use as 'Lightstrong Garage' until the 1970s.
