Full Description

{1} Range of buildings adjacent to the Coach and Horses - industrial or commercial use? One of the buildings does not have windows to upper storey. Film 6 photo 14.

{2} A building recording survey was undertaken of Nos. 7-13 Warwick Street and associated buildings to the rear. Planning permission has been granted for the restoration of the group of buildings and the creation of further residences in the rear garden.

There is evidence to suggest that Nos. 7-13 were originally part of the same long terrace fronting the street – a two storey building of roughly coursed rubblestone under a slightly asymmetrically profiled roof probably built as early as the 18th century. Little evidence of the original internal arrangements at this time survives and there is nothing in the surviving fabric to support the suggestion that this may have been an inn. Nos.7 and 9 retain the original four walls of this phase as well as, possibly, the original roof trusses. However, the rest of the interior has been gutted and much of the east gable wall rebuilt.
Only the two gable walls of Nos.11 and 13 survive from that phase – the east gable wall being the party wall with Nos.7 and 9 Warwick Street. Everything between these gable ends was gutted when the present pair of cottages and the passageway were created. This phase of alteration appears to have been undertaken in the mid-late 19th century. Late 19th-century historic maps show a different arrangment of buildings to the rear, indicating that the current buildings were constructed in the 20th century.
