Full Description
{1} Ironworks: Ebbw Vale Iron Ore Works to the south of the town have now been built over. Thomas Butlin and Co worked furnaces in the parish. Furnaces now owned by United Steel companies Ltd. (Kelly's 1924). Wide-scale open cast pit quarrying. Tunnel later bricked up, but took miners to the face of the ironstone mine. Operations recently ceased (1970's). The site of the kilns and calcinating plant may provide many acres of suitable land for future industrial and housing development. The quarries to the south of the town have been built over by a modern housing estate.
