Designed by the architect Edward Browning, it was constructed in Gothic Revival style and opened in 1859. the chapel is well-preserved externally, apart from the loss of the windows and south door, though the north door survives to demonstrate the original form. Internally, there are red and black quarry floor tiles throughout, plain plastered wall surfaces, ashlar stone dressings to all apertures and identical roof construction throughout.
