Full Description

{1} Established 1859. Large building shown on early Ordnance Survey maps. Now utilised by a commercial garage. Film 2, photo 18, 19.

{2} Built before 1886 and now converted into a garage.

{4} Built c 1924 in neo-Georgian style with a symmetrical, two-storey front block built from red brick. A projecting, pedimented central bay contains a segmental-arched stone entrance on the ground floor, leading to double doors, above which is a plaque displaying the words 'Drill Hall' in raised relief. The ground floor windows have segmental-arched heads whilst the first floor windows have straight heads rising to meet the eaves. Built on a largely residential street and set back slightly in line with the abutting terraced houses. The façade of the drill hall is modest in scale with two windows to each bay, and the hall itself measures c75 feet long and 35 feet wide, with very limited outdoor space to the rear. Very similar in style to the drill hall in Rushden [7203/131].
