Full Description
{1} Reservoir built on the line of the proposed Daventry Branch Canal, which was never constructed. It held water for more than 6000 locks to supplement the original reservoir at Daventry and opened in 1804, covering almost 100 acres. It is now part of Daventry Country Park.
{2} Daventry Reservoir was opened in 1804. It was built to supplement the two existing reservoirs in the area (Braunston Reservoir and Drayton, or Daventry Old, Reservoir), which were shown to be inadequate with the rapid increase in traffic brought about by the opening of the Branunston arm of the canal. It could originally hold 362,000,000 gallons when full, has an area of almost 100 acres and is fed by four streams running down the valley.
