Summary

Twin tunnels on the former LNWR Northampton-Market Harborough line, built in 1859 and 1879. Each is about 480 metres long with blue‑brick portals. The line closed in 1981 and the eastern tunnel now forms part of the pedestrian and cycle route through the linear park.

Full Description

{1} Twin railway tunnels on the former LNWR Northampton to Market Harborough branch. The tunnels are c.480m long. The western bore dates from the opening of the line in 1859. The eastern bore was dug when the line was doubled in 1879 and contains a chimney vent. The portals are of blue brick. The line was closed to rail traffic in 1981 and the eastern bore is now open to pedestrians and cycles as part of the linear park.

{2} One central air shaft (751795), with a tower built from Staffordshire Blue engineering bricks, lies immediately north-north-east of Top Lodge.
