Summary
Barry Road School was built in 1902 by Sidney Harris of Law and Harris in a Renaissance style. It was closed for two years in 1917, when it became one of the main Voluntary Aid Detachment hospitals during the First World War. With 260 beds to accommodate conversion included laying flooring over the swimming pool to create another ward.

Full Description
{1} Reference to Barry Road, one of the main VAD hospitals during WWI with 260 beds, the school being closed in 1917 for two years "and its conversion into a primary hospital with 260 beds, operating theatre, X-rays and other up to date accessories'. It treated 4,370 patients in the two years it was open.
