Summary

A chapel built in 1896 for the Oundle Union Workhouse, converted to a house by 1992. The chapel was designed by Sir Ninian Comper. It is rectangular in plan and is faced with stone with a pitched slate roof. Also known as Union Chapel.

Full Description

{1} 1896, by Ninian Comper. Built as the workhouse chapel, a severe building in coursed stone with stone slate roof. Gable with finial to road with narrow lancet window of 3 lights below blank niche with cusped head in gable. Narrow buttresses to quoins. 5 windows to nave with dripmoulds in bays formed by buttresses. Plain bell cote to west end, which has plain arched doorway under window with 2 lancet lights. The Main Building and Hospital Chapel form a group.

{3} The workhouse chapel was built in 1896 by John Ninian Comper of ashlar stone, it is still in existence and is now a private residence. Film 6, photo 18-20.
