Summary

A house dated of 1541 with 18th, 19th and 20th century alterations situated on the southern side of Main Street. The building is constructed of regular coursed limestone with a double pitch Collyweston slate roof with a chimney stack on the left gable and at the centre. The north facing facade has a two window range of casements to each floor with a central lean too porch. Internally, there is evidence of a winder stair and a spine beam incised with the date 1541.

Full Description

{1} House. Dated 1591 altered C18, C19 and C20. Regular coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally probably 2-unit plan. 2 storeys. 2-window range of C20 p.v.c. casements, in original openings, under wood lintels. 2 lintels to left has stop-chamfers. Central C20 lean-to porch. Partly rebuilt stone stacks at ridge and end. Interior: rooms to left and right of entrance have open fireplaces with bressumers. Room to right of entrance has remains of winder stair, to left of fireplace, and pine beam with date 1541. The date is flanked by fluting and there is a rosette on the soffitt of the beam C19 roof structure. Included for group value. The building is constructed of regular coursed limestone with a double pitch Collyweston slate roof with a chimney stack on the left gable and at the centre. The north facing facade has a two window range of casements to each floor with a central lean too porch. Internally, there is evidence of a winder stair and a spine beam incised with the date 1541. The Building is Listed at Grade II. Error noted in List Description as it dates the building at 1591 but then states 1541 as the date on the spine beam.
