Summary

A 17th century house that was altered and converted into a public house during the 19th century is situated on the northern side of Main Street. The pub is constructed of regular coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and a double pitch pantile and concrete pantile roof. It is single story with an attic range lit by two gabled dormer windows on the southern facade. The entrance door is central with a three light casement window to the right under a shared wooden lintel. On the left is a canted bay window with an ashlar base and flat roof. The interior has an open fireplace with a bressumer dated 1673, but this may not be original.

Full Description

{1} Public house. C17 and C19. Regular coursed limestone with pantile and concrete pantile roofs. Originally 2-unit plan. Single storey with attic 2-window range at ground floor. Canted bay window with glazing bars, ashlar base and flat roof, to left. Casement window with glazing bars, ashlar dressing and wood lintel, to right. 2 gabled half dormers, to attic, have similar casements, under wood lintels. Central C20 door, under wood lintel. Gable parapets with concrete copings and brick stacks at ends. Left gable has evidence of earlier roof line and blocked openings. Rear wing has C20 concrete pantile roof. Interior has open fireplace with bressumer. The bressumer has a scratched date 1673, probably not original. Included for group value.
