Summary

A 17th century house with 19th century alterations is situated on the corner of the High Street and New Road. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a double pitch Collyweston slate roof with ashlar gable chimney stacks and parapets. The main front faces south on to High Street and has two story canted bay windows to the left and right of an entrance doorway with a timber hood. During the 19th century the house was used as a post office and as the Cross Keys Public House.

Full Description

{1} Shown as Post Office on Ordnance Survey map. House. C17 altered C19. Squared coursed limestone, part rendered, with Collyweston slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan. 2 storeys. 2-window range of 2 storey canted bay windows with C19 casements. C20 door under reconstituted stone lintel. Ashlar gable parapet to left and ashlar end stack with moulded cornice. Shared brick and stone stack to right. Left gable has one 2-light stone mullion window, now blocked. C19 lean-to extension to rear. Interior no inspected but noted as having spine beam. Used for a time as the Cross Keys Public House. Included for group value.
