Summary

An early 17th century house with later features dated to the 18th and mid 19th centuries is located on the southern side of the High Street. The building was formerly used as a public house and has been constructed in two separate builds. The house is constructed of squared coursed limestone with double pitch Collyweston slate roofs with gable chimney stacks. The range to the left has a large brick and ashlar chimney stack to the left and a single eaves dormer window to the centre right. The elevation has a central canted bay window with a Collyweston slate roof and a small casement window to its right. The second range is attached to the right and has a two window range of sashes to the first floor with an entrance door on the ground floor left and a 16 paned sash to the right. A small ashlar chimney is situated on the right gable. In the mid 19th century it was known as the Blue Bell Inn.

Full Description

{1} House. Early C17, C18 and mid C19. Regular coursed and squared coursed limestone with Collyweston slate roof. Originally, probably, 2-unit plan. Single storey with attic, and 2 storeys. One-window range, to left, is original house with canted bay window to ground floor, having a Colleyweston slate roof. Eaves dormer with casement window to attic. Large brick and stone stack at end. 2-window range, attached to right, is mid C19. Sash windows with glazing bars with ashlar dressings and stone lin els, with keyblocks. C20 door to left of this range has similar surround and rectangular fanlight. Stone stack at end. Interior: room to left of entrance has open fireplace with bressumer. {3} One storey and attics, early 17th century. Ground floor bay window. Fireplace bressumer with cambered top. West end rebuilt in 19th century in two-storey urban style. In mid 19th century it was the Blue Bell Inn.
