Summary

Late 18th century bridge in Cottesbrooke Park built to designs by Robert Mitchell. The bridge comprises three round arches rising from short pointed cutwaters.

Full Description

{1} Bridge. Late C18 by Robert Mitchell. Limestone ashlar. 3 Arches with larger in centre rising from short pointed cutwater. Architraves to arches, frieze and cornice. Open balustrade parapet with panelled piers and moulded coping. Solid balustrade to ends, splayed under at approaches. Circular fluted paterae ornaments between arches. {3}Bridge put across lake 1770-80 - approximately at same time as park was landscaped.

{4} Bridge in landscaped park. 5-arch stone bridge built across the stream in 1770-80, probably by Robert Mitchell.

{7} The drive crosses the lake south of the Hall via a five-arched, limestone ashlar bridge (listed grade II) of c 1780, also probably by Robert Mitchell.

II Cottesbrooke Hall Bridge

Late C.18. Architect Robert Mitchell. Fine ashlar bridge with three round arches rising from short pointed cutwaters; circular fluted paterae ornaments. Architraves to arches; frieze and cornice with aprons above arches in frieze. Open balustraded parapet with panelled piers and moulded coping. Solid balustrade to ends of bridge, splayed
wider at approaches.
