Full Description

{1} C17 or early C18. Porch date stone 1704, porch rebuilt C19 with embattled parapet. Stone, old and machine tiled roof with 4 gabled dormers. 2 storeys and attics, 3 triple light casement windows with stone mullions and cornices. C19 bay on right of ground floor.

{2} Manor house. C17 or early C18. Porch datestone 1704. Porch rebuilt in C19 with crenellated parapet. C19 crenellated bay added on right. Regular coursed limestone rubble. Steeply pitched old and renewed tile roofs. Brick ridge stacks, one on a rendered stone base. Coped stone gables. T-plan. 2 storeys plus attic. 3-window range. Entrance to left. 2 and 3-light stone mullioned windows to left. C19 bay window to right. First floor has three 3-light stone mullioned windows. Most windows have hood moulds and label stops. 4 gabled attic dormers. Coped stone gables. Interior not inspected.

{3}The first mention of this manor dates from 1531, when Nicholas Wodhull esq died seized of Drayton Manor, held of the king as parcel of the Duchy of Lancaster. The manor passed to his son and then to his granddaughter, and subsequently became re-united with the main manor of Daventry. It therefore passed to John Clarke and his fellow investors in 1786 and remained in the Clarke family down to the 20th century.
