Full Description

{1} The link with Syresham is reflected in the records of two detached portions of Brackley St. Peter’s parish in Syresham in the 19th century. These were probably the two woods in the Whittlewood forest which Ellen held in 1296, whereof one is specifically named in 1329, when Matilda claimed right of free chase in Whistley Wood.
Mapped extent is of 1590 and taken from the Project Server: Woodland Survey.

{2} A number of ponds were identified the survey. A linear ‘hollow way’ depression containing a later central ditch connects upper and lower ponds from SP 6093 4120 to SP 6090 4106, 10.5m wide. The hollow has very slight banks lying either side. It may be of glacial origin, but does not seem to continue down to the brook.

In Compartment 3071, a few parallel ridges (‘stitches’) of likely 19th-century date lie at SP 6106 4165.
