Full Description

{1} There was a Baptist Chapel situated in Ecton in the early 19th century and it had been rebuilt at some time in its history. The present chapel is in the curtilage of a cottage numbered 26 High Street. Originally 26 High Street was two cottages 26 and 28 respectively. These two cottages predate the chapel.
The Baptist Chapel situated off High Street, Ecton is of a typical design for non-conformist buildings. Its fabric dates to the early part of the Victorian era, c. 1840. None of the original internal features remain and basically what remains is a shell of its former glory. The building has survived neglect and a threat of demolition.
The Baptist Chapel contains absolute dating evidence and this may be recovered from any of the king post roof trusses. However, it is realised much of this material will date from the Victorian period. The building indicates signs of subsidence and there is a possibility that the front elevation, in particular, has to be underpinned at a later date.

{2} Three-bay rendered front with round-arched windows and later porch. Two round-arched windows flank pulpit, one altered to doorway in 1867 when schoolroom added behind. Refitted late 19th century.
