Full Description

{1} A gully aligned north-east to south-west was recorded in the western half of the trench. The gully was V-shaped in profile and measured 0.85m wide and 0.12m deep. This shallow gully pre-dated the town defences and the remains of structures that are probably associated with the town defences. The gully may relate to the early Roman phase of the town's development, as one sherd of mid 1st -2nd century pottery was recovered from the fill.
