Summary

A Bronze Age urn was found by a gravedigger in 1965 and five further urns were discovered during a subsequent excavation by Oundle School.

Full Description

{1} Excavation within the cemetery south-west of Oundle. Six Bronze Age collared cinerary urns belonging to a flat urnfield.

{3} Find of March 1965. A Bronze Age urn. Found whilst grave digging. Five urns were excavated by Oundle School in 1965. Found at TL03338794 in 1965-6. The urns were given to Peterborough Museum in 1966.

{4} They were inverted in shallow pits filled with ash and charcoal over which limestone slabs had been placed. Calcined bones were also recovered.

{7} An urn, inverted, with the calcined bones beneath, and a flat, rough stone on top was discovered. The urn was of a brown speckled clay colour and had been crushed.

{8} A BA urn was discovered in March 1965 by Mr D Cunnington, St Peter's Road, Oundle while digging a grave at TL 03333 87984. The site was subsequently excavated by Oundle School who discovered a further 5 urns.
