Full Description

{1} NCC Aerial Photograph SP4853/7-9

{2} All the earthworks were already abandoned by the mid 19th century.

{3} On either side of the hollow way (34/0/8) are earthworks, very disturbed, but with some indications that there was formerly a series of closes bounded by low scarps. A number of large depressions may represent former buildings.

{4} Series of probable tenements fronting north onto Townsend Lane, which is deeply hollowed, with probable house sites at north ends of several. At least one appears to have wall footings defining a rectangular building, while others have platforms and other less distinct features. The tenements run back to a deep hollow way.

{5} Earthwork survey recorded differences in remaining features to those shown in RCHM survey and on aerial photos, possibly accounted for by differences in recording technique, and also by the infilling of some features by building activities in the 1990s.
