Monument record 3178/1/1 - Probable post-medieval windmill

The remains of a Post-medieval windmill mound is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs, east of Lancaster Farm. A windmill is recorded here on a mpa of 1737.

{1} Cropmark of a ring ditch and other linear ditches. The ring ditch is a windmill mound ditch and the linear features may be geological. G Foard (8/9/1980);(1) There is a possible entrance and internal circle on photograph 26.

{2} Windmill Hill Furlong adjacent to small enclosure on edge of sheep common. Enclosure is windmill site.

{5} The remains of a Post-medieval windmill mound is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs and was mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. The windmill mound was located east of Lancaster Farm at SP 98028 69068. The wide outer ditch measures about 23metres in diameter.
