Full Description

{2} Near the centre of trench 201 was a large ditch which formed the western corner of a large, sub-rectangular enclosure. The ditch, which was aligned north-east to south-west, was 2.4m wide and 1.6m deep. Iron Age pottery was recovered from several fills including the primary fill. In trench 204 the ditch was c5m wide and at least 0.74m deep (it is likely to be far deeper and may have been re-cut). In trench 208 the ditch was 2m wide but was not excavated. There were a large number of features within the enclosure including a number of ditches and gullies which might represent internal divisions and pits. A large assemblage of pottery from a substantial internal ditch in the northern part of the enclosure included diagnostic sherds dating to the 1st century BC.
