SNN106506 - Geophysical survey of land at Wootton, Northampton September - December 2007

Detailed magnetometer survey. Site consisted c. 180.6ha of land lying immediately to the north and west of Wootton. Two Bronze Age round barrows with associated enclosures and field systems were identified east of former ironstone quarries on the ridge at the north end of the site. A possible third Bronze Age round barrow ditch was identified in the south of the site. A substantial, probable Iron Age, site was located at the southern tip of the development area. This consisted of a pair of large concentric sub-rectangular ditched enclosures with four large and up to five smaller enclosures and associated ditches and pits. Elsewhere on site, evidence for medieval ridge and furrow cultivation was detected.
