Full Description

{1}Major excavation undertaken in 1974-8 on the site of the Neolithic causewayed enclosure. Three rectangular enclosures and a number of associated pits, all containing Iron Age pottery, overlay the Neolithic enclosure. Two of the enclosures lay side by side in the south-east part of the site. The larger, 30m X 21m was surrounded by a ditch, while the second, 15m x 11m was surrounded by a slot for a fence or palisade. Both had entrances on the east side and to the north and east was a cluster of pits. The third enclosure, 11m x 11m, was some distance away on the west side of the site. Pits immediately to the west and south contained slag and fired clay; SP73655920-73545924.
