Full Description

{1} Extensive evidence relating to a C2nd–C4th Roman farmstead, situated on the outskirts of the small Roman town of Duston. This town was heavily quarried for iron stone during the C19th, consequently little is known of its layout. The deposits located from the present site comprised of a sequential series of linear and curvilinear gullies and ditches denoting both boundary, enclosure and drainage elements. In addition a number of structural postholes, two wells, a single kiln with a surrounding enclosure, two apparently isolated graves and areas of pitting were also recorded. The provisional stratigraphic sequence indicates three broad phases of activity.
