Full Description
{1} Romano-British pottery was retrieved from a layer of dark earth; was not further investigated because of flooding of clay subsoil.
{2} Roman pottery, evaluation by M Shaw.
{3} Five test pits (TPs 14-18) were sited at the north-east end of field parcel 3900 to test an area where fieldwalking in 1974 had located a concentration of Roman pottery. In TP18 an area of dark earth was uncovered below the topsoil. Five sherds of Roman pottery, four pieces of fired clay and a strip of lead were discovered in revealing it, but it was not possible to investigate it further as the test pit filled with water. Six sherds of late Roman C3rd-C4th pottery were recovered from the spoil.
