Monument record 423/1/6 - Possible Ditch/Hollow Way Adjacent Lilbourne Castle (Morphed Aerial Archaeology Interpretation)

{2} A number of hollowed trackways approach and skirt the castle site but their relationship to it is uncertain.

{4} The moat varies between 8 and 15m wide and in places is still 2m deep. Originally the moat would have had steep sides to entrap attackers. The proximity of the river suggests that the bottom would have been flat, boggy and submerged, further enhancing its defensive capabilities.
