Full Description

{2} Geophysical survey was undertaken in 2022. Several conjoined rectilinear anomalies were identified in the south-eastern corner of the survey area. The rectilinear shape of the anomalies is suggestive of probable enclosures with further subdivisions located inside the outermost rectilinear anomaly.

{3} Archaeological trial trench excavation revealed a sequence of enclosure and boundary ditches, pits and postholes associated with late iron Age to early Roman pottery. The small enclosure and associated features identified by the trenching appears to represent part of a rural settlement. The faunal material and morphology of the ditches may suggest an emphasis on animal husbandry and pastoral land use. A large feature identified in one of the trenches may be a watering hole.
