Monument record 7797/0/1 - Late Iron Age/ Roman square enclosure

{1} Detailed survey has confirmed the presence of a concentration of ditch and pit type anomalies in the southwest of this field. Along the southern limit of the survey area a third enclosure is visible in the data. This is approximately 30m square and has a clearly defined entrance on its northern side. All three enclosures are all aligned approximately NE-SW.

{2} The ditch of Enclosure A produced middle Iron Age pottery. Posssible structural evidence was suggested by a post hole and gulley. Charred grain, along with a charred pea or lentil, was also found within the enclosure ditch.

{3} Square ditched enclosure, 31m wide, with an entrance to the north. The primary ditch was at least 1.60m wide and 0.88m deep. It only survived partially on the south and west sides, truncated by a later recut enclosure ditch, up to 2.72m wide and 1.14m deep.
