Monument record 1160/358/2 - Chapel, Northampton General Hospital

The chapel was dedicated in 1940. The architect was AE Henson of Brown, Henson & Partners. Romanesque in style. Now demolished.

{2} Record made prior to demolition. Fairly plain stone faced structure under pitched roof, constructed c.1935. Christian adornment apparent but fairly restrained. Atrium entrance gives way to large single space interior with balcony to the west end.

{4} A level 3 building recording survey was undertaken prior to demolition. It was dedicated in 1940. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with a slate. Austere Romanesque style. The west entrance is the only evidence of embellishment, with a moulded round-head tympanum with bas-relief of Christ receiving children and double-front doors divided into diamond and triangular panels by deeply moulded ribs.
