Full Description

{1} Four ditches were found in proximity to the pit alignment (1724/0/2); three ditches terminated on or within 2m of the northernedge of the alignment and one cut through the alignment from the south and terminated about 3m to the north of the alignment.

{2} Cutting across the pit alilgnment and partially obscuring several of the pits was evidence of furrows surviving from the medieval open field system. These were up to 3m wide and at c.6m intervals, aligned roughly north-south across the site. In the light of the wider area observed during the subsequent watching brief, it seems probable that these ditches were in fact the remnant of medieval ridge and furrow rather than discrete features.
