Three trial trenches excavated in 2006 prior to development identified only a late medieval pit, and post-medieval quarry and possible robber trench.

Full Description

{1} Trial trench excavation undertaken ahead of development. A probable pit was revealed. It had almost vertical sides and a flat, irregular base and contained animal bone, a single sherd of later medieval pottery, snail shell and a clay pipe bowl. A probable robber trench with (near) vertical sides and a flat base. It contained an iron bar, window glass, ceramic building material, and 17-18th century pottery. F1013 was a probable quarry pit of unknown shape (it continued beyond the trench.) It had moderately steep, irregular, stepped sides and an irregular concave base. A single fragment of animal bone was recovered from its fill.
