Monument record 7363/0/1 - Probable site of Roman activity, south of Middleton Lodge Farm

Summary
Possible site of Roman finds identified during fieldwalking survey. Geophysical survey undertaken in 2016 identified anomalies that may be archaeological in origin including two probable enclosures. A total of 12 trenches were excavated in the western section of this polygon, which comprised a densely arranged features suggesting a multi-phase site.

Full Description
{1} Archaeological site recorded as GIS polygon only. Roman pottery.
{4} The trial trenches revealed a dense area of archaeology in the western part of this polygon. These excavations revealed several pits, ditches and postholes that have been tentatively dated to the Iron Age/Roman period which would correspond with the surrounding area. The pits and post holes are assorted in no obvious structural arrangement.
