Full Description

{1} Stone and pottery were recovered from the bottom of field First Meer: the pottery was identified as Romano-British. The quantity of large pieces of limestone, sandstone, ironstone, large pebbles and a quernstone could indicate the location of a building nearby.

{2} A surface scatter of 1st to 4th century pottery.

{3} Roman pottery and some limestone found on a rocky ironstone outcrop just north of the brook at SP 699 627.

{4} Geophysical survey identified a series of ditched enclosures but no obvious building remains.

{5} Fieldwalking survey by CLASP as part of the Local People: Local Past Project. There are 1,063 Romano-British pottery sherds, weighing about 11.5 kilos, equivalent to 1,085 sherds per hectare.
