Full Description
{1} Trial trench excavation was undertaken on land adjacent to Eastern Way. Trench 1 was located in the northern part of the site on a former pitch and putt golf course, across an area of extant ridge and furrow earthworks.
{2} Topographic survey and trial trench excavation were undertaken. Furrows were revealed within Trenches 2,3 and 4. The topographic survey demonstrated that extant ridge and furrow was most prominent on the west of the site, but the earthworks were generally very truncated. Within Trench 4 was a ditch which had been cut from above the subsoil, indicating that it was relatively recent in date. (Modern field drains were also observed in some of the trenches.) Two cut features were observed in the centre of the site, very likely to represent modern pits. An extant earthwork was noticed to the north of one pit and is likely to result from upcast material. A linear bank was observed in the south of the site, but of uncertain origin.
