Full Description
{1} Timber-lined well, of which only two faces survived. Approx 4ft square. Some of the timbers had half lap-joints. There was not evidence of vertical timbers in the corners. The lining only extended down as far as a water-filled hole. Due to the state of preservation of the timbers, the well was probably water-logged before being unearthed. A comb handle was found in the water-filled hole. Photos.
{2} Archaeological investigation undertaken in 2018 ahead of construction identified a small number of Saxon and medieval ditches and an alignment of postholes dating to the 12th century that may have been a medieval building or fenceline. One of the ditches was dated to the Saxon period on the basis of two fragments of middle Saxon antler comb found in the fill.
