Full Description

{1} The GPR survey suggested structural remains associated with the presumed entrance, possibly indicating a tower.

{2} A break in the continuous line of the rampart around the bailey in the south west of the site was speculated to be the entrance way. A large stone rubble foundation construction was seen on a north-south alignment, 3.5m wide and 1.15m high. The sides were slightly sloping and the upper level was flat. The construction was of limestone of differing sizes, some on the outer edge dressed. It is possible that the foundation block was constructed in three sections comprising two facing walls with rubble packing. On the west of the structure a rubble layer of probable collapse material was seen. On the east side a post hole was seen, possibly the remains of a fence supporting a revetment.
