Full Description
{1} {1} An estate plan dated 1778 doesn't show Westfield House, but the 1871 map of registration areas does, as does the 1884 OS map where the buildings appear to be arranged in their current layout. The farm buildings at Westfield House were built as a single integrated unit - a planned layout arranged around the north, south, east and west sides of a U-shaped yard.
They were constructed of brick with pitched slate roofs and some architectural detailing, including diaper patterns and a pigeon/ dovecote at the apex of the south-west gable of building two.
The buildings are dated to the middle/ later half of the 19th century.
The buildings represent a collection which includes: stables, loose boxes, lofts, harness room/ boothy, carriage/ cart shed, privy, hackney pony stables and pig housing.
This group of buildings has clearly been designed and built as a single integrated unit, a planned layout using quality materials to a highly evolved functional design, not without some architectural merit. The original buildins are reasonably preserved, although ina poor state of repair. They retain much of their primary internal arrangements and fixtures and fittings and retained their context with the farmhouse and their original planned layout.
