Full Description

{1} A block of smaller enclosures, 130m by 50m, extends south and west outside the surveyed area. These comprise numerous linear and curvilinear ditches. Within one of the smaller enclosures to the south, three circular features, interpreted as pits, have been identified and there are other possible small features.

{2} A large number of linear and rectilinear positive anomalies forming a common north-north-easterlyy orientated 'grid'. The anomalies may be interprested as ditched enclosures, perhaps created coaxilaay off drove ways. Such a system suggests a Roman date to the features. Curving anomalies at the margins of the group suggest that this possible Roman system overlies earlier Iron Age activity.

Within trench 27 was a curvilinear gully corresponding with the geophysical survey, and which may have been a roundhouse gully. Two sherds of mid-late 1st century Roman pottery were retrieved.

Gullies, ditches, pits and postholes were seen in trenches 23-26 and 64-7 that correpond with the geophysical survey results. Early Roman pottery was recovered from some of these features.
