Abstract/Summary

Geophysical and fieldwalking (surface collection) surveys were carried out on land proposed by Hanson Aggregates for the western extension of the gravel quarry at Earls Barton. Although the fieldwalking yielded little of obvious archaeological significance, the geophysical survey detected a series of Iron Age/ Roman enclosures and associated field systems as well as more ambiguous but probably medieval anomalies and widespread ridge and furrow traces. The settlement evidence and field systems appear to be a continuation of the archaeological remains found during the Clay Lane excavations.
