Monument record 5911/1 - Probable Modern Ironstone Workings

Probable ironstone quarries are visible on historical aerial photographs and lidar imagery and the quarrying covers a large area of land north and northeast of Irchester. This area is not mentioned in Tonks, although the land around is subject to intensive ironstone and limestone quarrying.

{2} Mainly disused opencast ironstone workings and limestone, sand and gravel quarries.

{4, 5} Probable ironstone quarries are visible on historical aerial photographs and lidar imagery and their full extant (as visible on the photographs and lidar) were mapped as part of the Bedford Borough NMP project. The quarrying covers a large area of land north and northeast of Irchester and centred at SP 92351 66343.
