Monument record 2471/1 - Possible Early Middle Saxon Ironworking Site

A possible Saxon settlement suggested by finds of pottery and iron slag, situated to the North East of the village.

{1} An extensive area of burnt earth 35m in diameter, yielded slag, ironstone and some black gritted Saxon pottery.

{2} Fieldwalking identified a dark soilmark with iron slag and early-middle Saxon pottery. A large site, slightly to the north of the published ngr (mapped area provided).

{3} An extensive area of burnt earth 35m in diameter which contained ironstone, slag and Saxon pottery.

{4} Possible Ironworking Site (DNH GIS Mapping: Geddington/Site 1). CHECK: taken from GIS mapping layer only, not on DNH main text database!
