Summary

Aircraft BB792 was a De Havilland Tiger Moth British trainer, one of 123 such aircraft impressed from civillian use by the Royal Air Force between September 1940 and January 1941. The previous civillian registration was G-ABUL. The aircraft was with 6 squadron Elementary Flying Training School. It crashed whilst low flying, killing the crew and a cyclist, at Wollaston, on 23rd of June 1944.

Full Description

{1} BB792 hit a cyclist whilst low flying, Wollaston, Northants, 23.6.1944.

{3} BB792 was in the charge of a flying instructor, when it crashed in a low flying incident at Wollaston. The crew had tried to "beat up" (i.e. fly low over) and intimidate or impress some land girls. The plane stalled, and hit a cyclist, killing both crew and the cyclist.

{3} This area was assessed as part of the Bedford Borough NMP aerial survey project. No features as described above were visible on any of the available aerial photographs

{4,5} Neither the geophysical survey nor the trial trench excavation identified any evidence for the crash site.
